one check

# Where this connection comes from

Most blocking decisions turn on this layer more than on anything your browser reports. What can honestly be said about an address is narrower than what commercial services claim, and the difference is named below rather than papered over.

Country not determinable

Network not determinable

Network type not determinable from the free datasets

City not determinable. City-level accuracy only holds for fixed lines, and not always then.

Tor exit not on the official exit list

VPN no hit on the lists we hold. That says very little, the lists are far from complete.

Residential proxy Not determinable. Telling a residential proxy from an ordinary consumer line needs commercial data we deliberately do not buy, and guessing at it would be the kind of claim this page exists to avoid.

Sources: ASN data from iptoasn.com (public domain), derived from RouteViews BGP snapshots · IP-to-country and IP-to-city from the DB-IP Lite databases (CC-BY-4.0, db-ip.com) · Tor exit list from the Tor Project (check.torproject.org) · Datacentre and VPN ranges from the X4BNet lists (MIT). All held as local copies and refreshed by a scheduled job. Nothing about your address is looked up anywhere else while you wait.

## What this one page cannot tell you

The reputation of your address, what any given site thinks of it. That lives in their records, not in any dataset. We also never claim a residential proxy: telling one from an ordinary consumer line needs commercial data we deliberately do not buy.

The interesting part is usually not a single value but the disagreement between two. [The full check](https://scalebrowser.net/check) reads all five layers and shows you where they contradict each other.
